Step into Monteverde’s cloud forest with a local naturalist guide who knows how to interpret its sounds, movements, and subtle signs. This relaxed, small-group walk is designed for travelers who want to understand the forest, not simply pass through it. We take time to observe birds, mammals, insects, plants, and the ecological relationships connecting them. Depending on seasonal conditions and recent wildlife activity, we select the reserve or route offering the best opportunities for observation. Many of our walks take place at Curi-Cancha Reserve, known for excellent birdwatching and natural history experiences throughout the year. Your guide uses professional, powerful optical equipment of the highest quality available to help you observe details that are difficult to see with the naked eye. When conditions allow, photographs captured during the tour are shared with our guests at no additional cost as a courtesy. Wildlife remains wild, so sightings are never guaranteed—and every walk offers a different experience. Our purpose is simple: to share Monteverde personally, honestly, and with the same care we give the forest we proudly call home.

Please note

• The trails are generally low difficulty and easy to navigate. However, because they are natural paths, some sections may be uneven, wet, slippery, or muddy. Whenever possible, your guide will adapt the route and pace to the group’s needs to provide a comfortable and safe experience.

• The tour operates in changing tropical weather conditions, and the route may be adjusted when necessary for safety.

• Wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed, as all animals are observed freely in their natural habitat.

• Children must remain under the supervision of a responsible adult throughout the experience.

• All participants must respect the reserve’s regulations and follow the guide’s safety instructions.

• Smoking, consuming alcohol or illegal substances, or arriving under their influence is strictly prohibited. Failure to comply may result in denied participation or immediate termination of the tour without a refund.

• Monteverde welcomes visitors from different countries, cultures, and backgrounds. Respect, patience, and consideration toward other visitors, guides, reserve staff, and local communities are essential throughout the experience.

• The reserve is shared with other visitors and is not reserved exclusively for our group. At popular wildlife sightings, groups of different sizes—including families with children—may briefly gather in the same area. Whenever possible, your guide will adapt the route and pace to preserve a personal experience. This does not mean that separate groups will be combined.

• To help us provide the safest and most comfortable experience possible, please let us know in advance about any accessibility needs, health considerations, allergies, or assistance you may require.

What to bring

• A valid photo ID.

• Comfortable, closed-toe shoes suitable for walking on natural trails.

• Comfortable clothing; long pants are recommended.

• A light sweater, rain jacket, or poncho, depending on weather conditions.

• A reusable water bottle.

• Liquid insect repellent in a manual pump-spray bottle; pressurized aerosols are not permitted. Please consult your guide before applying it, as repellent may not be sprayed inside the forest.

• Sunscreen applied before entering the reserve.

• A small backpack for personal belongings.

• Personal binoculars or a camera, if desired. Professional optical equipment will be provided by your guide during the tour.
